What is Nia

Nia is a fitness art that builds strength, agility, flexibility and grace in the body and mind, bringing about transformation on many levels beyond the physical. By following the Body’s Way, people of all ages, and fitness levels can learn to explore their own bodies and the way they move.

Studio Kairos

The first Nia class started in 2003 with Susan Sloan and her White Belt colleagues, Ann Schwankhart and Michelle Hudson. Soon after, Susan created Studio Kairos as the demand for more classes grew. We now offer 11 classic Nia classes, two Nia Moving to Heal classes, two yoga classes, and two Aikido classes a week. We are grateful to our students and the support of our dedicated teachers.

Types of classes

Nia draws from disciplines of the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Stiff beginners and highly fit athletes alike can adapt Nia to meet their needs by choosing from three intensity levels.
